Medicare plans

Your Medicare choices, in plain language.

There's no one right Medicare path — there's the right path for you. Your doctors, your prescriptions, your travel, your budget and your comfort with networks all point the direction. Here's the map; when you're ready, I'll help you read it.

Understand the main paths

Start with the coverage categories.

These summaries are a starting point. Coverage, costs and eligibility depend on the option, your location and your individual circumstances.

The foundation

Original Medicare

Part A generally helps cover inpatient hospital care, while Part B generally helps cover physician services and outpatient care. Together, they are commonly called Original Medicare.

Part C

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Part A and Part B benefits through a Medicare-approved private insurance company. Networks, costs, service areas and coverage rules vary by plan.

Medigap

Medicare Supplement

Medicare Supplement insurance works alongside Original Medicare and can help with certain out-of-pocket costs. It does not replace Original Medicare and generally does not include outpatient prescription drug coverage.

Prescription coverage

Medicare Part D

Part D provides outpatient prescription drug coverage. It may be included in a Medicare Advantage plan or offered as a stand-alone Part D plan. Dave offers both Medicare Advantage plans with Part D coverage and stand-alone Part D plans. Covered drugs, pharmacies and costs vary by plan.

Companies and plan brands

Companies and plan brands I represent.

Dave is authorized to offer Medicare products from the companies and brands listed below. Plan availability and plan type vary by company, parish and eligibility; a listed name does not mean every plan or product from that company or brand is available through Dave.

  • Humana®
  • UnitedHealthcare®
  • AARP
  • Peoples Health
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana
  • Aetna®
  • HealthSpring℠ (formerly Cigna)
  • Devoted Health
  • Mutual of Omaha®
  • WellCare®
Part C with prescription coverage

Medicare Advantage with Part D

Dave offers Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans that include Part D prescription drug coverage.

Works with Original Medicare

Medicare Supplements

Dave offers Medicare Supplement plans, also called Medigap plans. These policies work alongside Original Medicare to help with certain out-of-pocket costs and generally do not include outpatient prescription drug coverage.

Part C without prescription drug coverage

Medicare Advantage without drug coverage

Dave offers Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans without Part D prescription drug coverage. These plans may fit Veterans and their spouses who receive prescription drug coverage through the VA, TRICARE For Life, or CHAMPVA, as well as others who receive prescription drug coverage from a non-Part D source. Before enrolling, confirm how a plan would coordinate with your existing coverage.

Stand-alone prescription coverage

Stand-Alone Part D

Dave offers stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

Questions worth asking

A useful comparison is personal.

A plan name alone does not tell you whether the coverage fits. Useful comparisons look at the practical details that affect how you receive and pay for care.

  • Are my doctors and preferred hospitals available?
  • How are my prescriptions covered?
  • Which pharmacies can I use?
  • What premiums and out-of-pocket costs should I consider?
  • How would the coverage work when I travel?
  • Are referrals or prior authorization required?

Timing matters

Ask before making an irreversible change.

Enrollment opportunities depend on your age, eligibility, employer coverage and circumstances. Missing the right window can sometimes delay coverage or result in a penalty. Talk with Dave before ending employer coverage or changing coverage you may not be able to get back.

Beyond Medicare

Need more than Medicare?

Dental, vision and hearing coverage. Hospital indemnity. Cancer policies. Travel medical. Medicare handles a lot, but not everything — see what else I offer on the Supplemental Insurance page.

Talk with Dave

Talk through your Medicare choices.

General questions can begin with a phone call. You do not need to complete a form before calling Dave.

Ready to discuss specific plans?

Before we can go over specific plans, Medicare requires a quick Scope of Appointment form. It is not a commitment—it simply confirms which types of coverage you are open to discussing.
